The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in employing replay technology.
Video review technology will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Players will gain the option to challenge particular decisions made by the official, mirroring the practice already in place at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented ELC, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to review specific situations, including:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the number of challenges a player can ask for.
Practical Application
A recent example occurred in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled the player was guilty of interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
A further change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
