'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match ended with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative effort from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly hammered in the rebound before charging toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result completed an unbelievable comeback given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 during the latter period. During the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a upcoming game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed formation. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they always find their target and they are adept at dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're all right and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It requires a strong mentality and concentration just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a popular figure across two seasons at Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he reunited with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at fourth-tier the Manchester club, before he departed Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for his national side, who could still reach the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches games against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This represents an incredible journey for the kid from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "This represented a extended travel and it was chilly," he recalls, smiling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "It was relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I wasn't going to make it at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a minibus driven by academy staff, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to interact with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person out of the minibus and driving. Franco is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
