Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior representative commented the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
